CoderDojo is a free, volunteer-led, community-based coding club for students ages 7 to 17. All students are welcome regardless of their previous experience with computer programming. At CoderDojo, kids learn how to code; develop websites, apps, programs, and games; and explore technology in a safe, informal, and creative environment.

Many of our CoderDojo classes involve exploring micro:bits, a tiny programmable computer designed to make learning fun! We will provide micro:bits to all students until our supply runs out (Thank you to NineStar Connect for purchasing these micro:bits and supply kits!). If you have received one in the past, be sure to bring it to class with you.

Kids with some or no coding experience will start with the engaging, block-based programming language, Scratch. Scratch is perfect for learning coding without requiring much typing and it allows the kids to be very creative immediately. Kids with more coding experience will learn more advanced coding using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. Arcade includes advanced block-based coding, but also allows for text-based coding using JavaScript. JavaScript is great for learning your first professional programming language after mastering Scratch.

Thank you to Myron Snelson and Tony Bye, our wonderful instructors. Myron is a retired software developer and computer science major from Ball State University. Tony is a current software developer and math major from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Finally, a huge thank you to Ned, the NineStar Connect Nerd, for bringing this program to Hancock County!
